MM Students Take Virtual Visit to Yellowstone
Impossible Possibilities co-founder Joshua Hernandez presented to students on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, via a virtual presentation as part of the organizations Maven’s Milestones (MM) reading achievement program.
MM is an incentive-based reading achievement program with more than 1,600 students at four Fort Worth ISD elementary schools. The program rewards students for reaching each of "Maven the Raven's Milestones:" Ascent, Afterburner, Approach and Call Sign Maven. Each milestone represents a specific number of points that the students earn by reading books and passing online quizzes.
Students learned all about the nation’s first national park: Yellowstone. Hernandez narrated his visit to Yellowstone with pictures he took of local wildlife and other main attractions, such as the Grand Prismatic, the largest hot spring in the U.S., and Old Faithful, a geyser that can shoot boiling water up to 185 feet into the air. He also provided interesting facts like how Yellowstone received its name and how the park sits atop the largest active supervolcano in North America.
“These student engagements have always been a central part of this program,” Hernandez said. “Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we weren’t able to visit the students in person this year. With so many of them studying from home, we thought a visit to Yellowstone would be the perfect opportunity for their imaginations to escape.”
