8th Annual Dallas Citywide Luggage Drive
Impossible Possibilities (IP) sponsored the 8th Annual Dallas Citywide Luggage Drive.
The grant marks the eighth consecutive year the organization has contributed to the drive, which benefits graduating high school seniors in the Dallas ISD by providing luggage at no cost. IP has funded the purchase of 154 total luggage sets since 2013, including 24 sets in 2020.
The annual drive is organized by 2011 IP scholarship award recipient, 2015 Georgetown University graduate, and 2017 Harvard University graduate Adan Gonzalez. Gonzalez started the drive in response to a personal experience of using trash bags as luggage when he moved from Dallas Oak Cliff to Washington D.C. to start college.
“Over the past eight years, over 1,000 North Texas students have received luggage sets, to not only carry their clothes, but most importantly, their dreams as they head to college,” Gonzalez said.
Due to Covid-19, students received their luggage in July on an individual basis and were collectively sent off to college with a virtual event hosted by Gonzalez’s own nonprofit, Puede Network.
