Impossible Possibilities (IP) sponsored the 5th Annual Dallas Citywide Luggage Drive held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at Dallas City Hall.
The grant marks the fifth consecutive year that the organization has contributed to the drive, which benefits graduating high school seniors in the Dallas ISD by providing luggage at no cost. Each recipient will use the luggage as they transition from high school to college.
The annual event is organized by 2011 IP scholarship award recipient, 2015 Georgetown University graduate and 2017 Harvard University graduate Adan Gonzalez, who realized the need after his own experience of using trash bags when he moved from Dallas Oak Cliff to Washington D.C. to start college.
Since the inaugural event in 2013, IP has purchased and distributed more than 100 new sets of luggage. Approximately 300 students received luggage in 2017, increasing the total number of students served to 850 over the past five years.
Impossible Possibilities’ co-founder Joshua Hernandez addressed the 2017 recipients, reminding them to always give back because “that person you go out of your way to help might just end up graduating from Harvard one day!”
